Since I can remember, my mother had always expressed her deep desire to embark on the sacred pilgrimage of Hajj. It was a dream she held close to her heart since her childhood, an aspiration she longed to fulfill. Despite traveling outside India to places like Canada, Singapore and Malaysia, she yearned for Hajj to be her first journey beyond the borders of her homeland. However, as the saying goes, "We plan and Allah also plans, and He is the best planner" (Quran 8:30).
Allah had different plans for my mother. A few years later, she passed away, and the opportunity to fulfil her lifelong dream of Hajj slipped away. Her departure left a void in our lives, and my father's health began to deteriorate.
In 2018, my father suffered a severe heart attack, and the doctors were uncertain if he would survive. By the grace of Allah, he pulled through, defying the odds. As his health remained fragile, the weight of my mother's unfulfilled Hajj dream burdened my thoughts. I found myself blaming myself for not doing enough to make it happen for her.
Determined to make amends, I made a firm resolution while my father was on his deathbed. I vowed that if he recovered, I would take him for Hajj. Once we returned home from the hospital, I shared my heartfelt intention with him.
At first, he hesitated, citing his fragile health as a barrier. However, I reassured him, saying, "Aap niyat to kariye, InshaAllah Allah mumkin Karne wala hai" (You make the intention, and by the will of Allah, He will make it possible). With faith in our hearts, I discussed the plan with my sisters and sought the advice of my father's cardiologist, who also happened to be a childhood friend.
Despite the concerns raised about my father's health, I contacted the hajj tour company my mother had once wished to travel with and booked two seats for the upcoming Hajj in August 2018. The decision carried its share of risks, but the obligation of Hajj had already become incumbent upon my father, just as it had for my mother. I couldn't wait for the "right time" again.
As the days went by, my father's health gradually improved, Alhamdulillah. Both of us embarked on the sacred journey of Hajj that year, fulfilling my mother's unfulfilled dream and bringing solace to our hearts. The opportunity to serve my father in this way was a blessing bestowed upon me by Allah, and I am grateful for the chance to make a meaningful contribution to his Hajj experience.
If you're curious to know the rest of the story, I invite you to stay tuned. I will share the remarkable details of our Hajj journey soon, showcasing the power of faith, determination, and the immense blessings that unfold when we strive to fulfil the unfulfilled dreams of our loved ones.
