Enjoying Rain

In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful

We were three of us returning from a friend’s birthday party, it was 9 at night and clouds had taken over warning all of us of the rain to come. To add to it we were not getting a rickshaw to get back home so we thought of walking to the nearby square hoping to get one from there. On the way to the square we kept asking rickshaw walas but no one agreed to take us to our destination.

Finally we reached the square and drops started pouring (i.e rain), we spotted a Tam-Tam and decided to grab it as no one of us wanted to get wet.
Well the Tam-Tam was full with people returning from their respective jobs but looking at us and the given atmosphere, the Tam-Tam wala made arrangement so four people (i.e. three of us and a random guy) sat in the front beside him where normally two can sit comfortably. I thanked Allah SWT for the Tam-Tam and the goodwill of the driver both. From my past experience in this so called student’s city, I never expected so from the driver… as I said thanks to Allah SWT.

The three others took the inner seat and I took the outer most seat (rather half seat I should say) and so my legs were out.The Tam-Tam as I said was houseful with most of the people returning from their job. That area is basically known for the IT Park and so the discussions in the Tam-Tam were mostly about IT softwares, IT companies that most of the engineering students dream about, the work atmosphere, the complaints with their respective companies, the bad transport facility in pune, etc etc.

The Tam-Tam was very old and hence made that typical sound that is normally generated by old vehicles. Well the less said about the songs played in a rickshaw is better…!!!!! And this Tam-Tam was not an exception. I was least bothered about the songs, I was lost in the rain, I was enjoying the chill drops falling on my lap.

Initially it was like a shower but soon the drops started getting bigger as rain continued…. Given the conditions of the Tam-Tam, the people started to feel the drops even inside and as usual…. Our mentality….. Most of the people started abusing the rain, cursing it for the bad timing, etc etc…

Qur’an CH:6 V:99.
It is He Who sendeth down rain from the skies: with it We produce vegetation of all kinds: from some We produce green [crops], out of which We produce grain, heaped up [at harvest]; out of the date-palm and its sheaths [or spathes] [come]clusters of dates hanging low and near: and [then there are] gardens of grapes, and olives, and pomegranates, each similar [in kind] yet different [in variety]: when they begin to bear fruit, feast your eyes with the fruit and the ripeness thereof. Behold! in these things there are signs for people who believe.

I always enjoy rain for various reasons…. And regardless of all the background music, (i.e. the FM, people cursing, honking, and the typical sound of the Tam-Tam) I kept enjoying the rain. My legs became completely wet due to rain and suddenly in no time my pant started weighing, I being a thin man had to bear that weight thinking that it would turn me macho…. Hehe…

Soon the rain water entered my shoes and it tickled….. I smiled…..!!!!! The rain continued, it kept tickling me where it tickles the most… I kept smiling…!!!!

Narrated Ata: 'Aisha (raa) said If the Prophet (PBUH) saw a cloud In the sky, he would walk to and fro in agitation, go out and come in, and the color of his face would change, and if it rained, he would feel relaxed." So 'Aisha (raa) knew that state of his. So the Prophet (PBUH) said, I don't know (am afraid), it may be similar to what happened to some people referred to in the Holy Quran in the following Verse: -- "Then when they saw it as a dense cloud coming towards their valleys, they said, 'This is a cloud bringing us rain!' Nay, but, it is that (torment) which you were asking to be hastened a wind wherein is severe torment." (46.24)

On the way I saw people getting wet on their bikes…. I thanked Allah SWT for my lost bike else even I would have been on the bike getting wet like them and struggling to ride. As the Tam-Tam moved further in the traffic, I saw people (on bikes) waiting for the rain to stop beneath a flyover…. I thanked Allah SWT once again else even I would have been one of them wasting the crucial time during exam waiting beneath the flyover. I thanked Allah SWT for the protection over my head of the Tam-Tam… I prayed for those on bike for good health the next day and the present day to save them from accidents.

My friends got down nearby their place of stay and I continued the journey lost in my thoughts. As the last stop was nearing, Alhamdulillah (Praise to be Allah) the rain stopped, I got down, paid the fare, got into another Tam-Tam and finally returned home in those heavy pants….. I kept pulling up my pants while I was walking towards home; the naughty rain had made it so heavy that it was slipping down.

The decision of Hajj: My Journey to Hajj with My Father

<Thanks to my wife for this sketch> Since I can remember, my mother had always expressed her deep desire to embark on the sacred pilgrimage of Hajj. It was a dream she held close to her heart since her childhood, an aspiration she longed to fulfill. Despite traveling outside India to places like Canada, Singapore and Malaysia, she yearned for Hajj to be her first journey beyond the borders of her homeland. However, as the saying goes, "We plan and Allah also plans, and He is the best planner" (Quran 8:30). Allah had different plans for my mother. A few years later, she passed away, and the opportunity to fulfil her lifelong dream of Hajj slipped away. Her departure left a void in our lives, and my father's health began to deteriorate. In 2018, my father suffered a severe heart attack, and the doctors were uncertain if he would survive. By the grace of Allah, he pulled through, defying the odds. As his health remained fragile, the weight of my mother's unfulfille...

Preparing for Hajj: The Physical Fitness

Bismillah ir Rahman ir Rahim (In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful) "And those who strive for Us — We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good." — [Surah Al-Ankabut, 29:69] Assalamu Alaikum everyone, In my last blog, I shared how I made the decision to perform Hajj with my father. Today, I want to take you through our preparation process, which was a crucial part of the journey. Preparation for Hajj is key to ensuring a successful pilgrimage, and it’s something that ideally begins as soon as one embraces Islam or if you are an existing muslim, whenever you reach adulthood. However, it’s never too late to start — once you make the intention or book your trip, the preparation should begin right away. For us, preparation for Hajj was a process that had been unfolding since my childhood. My mother used to constantly narrate the stories of Hajj and Madinah, and my father did the same. These stories planted a seed of excitement a...

A School Event and a Wake-Up Call: Teaching Our Kids About Salah

Bismillah ir Rehman ir Raheem   (In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful). "Those who establish regular Prayer, and give regular Charity, and have (in their hearts) the assurance of the Hereafter. These are on (true) guidance from their Lord: and these are the ones who will prosper." (Quran 31:4-5) Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a function at my kids’ school that resembled an Anand Mela . It was a vibrant event where students set up stalls to sell homemade food items and organize games. The school had done an excellent job of organising the event, with staff members guiding groups of 3 to 4 students at each stall. The food options were delightful—paani puri, shawarma, chicken roast, veg burgers—and the games were just as engaging, from tossing balls into glasses to catching (toy) fish within a time limit. We attended the event as a family, and Alhamdulillah, we had a great time. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and joy, creating cheri...
